Mathieu Despard
Faculty Director
Mathieu (Mat) Despard (he/him/his) is a Faculty Director with the Social Policy Institute who holds appointments as an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the Department of Social Work, and as Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He conducts research on financial health, with a focus on low- and moderate-income households, including workplace financial wellness programs, tax-time savings, and household financial health. He has taught graduate courses in social work for 14 years. Prior to his academic career, he worked for 16 years primarily with non-profit organizations serving low- and moderate-income households.
He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received earned his M.S.W. and his Ph.D.
