Somalis Chy (she/her) is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Social Policy Institute. She earns her PhD degree in Human Ecology with a focus on Consumer Behavior and Family Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a family economist and public policy analyst, she employs an interdisciplinary lens and econometric methods to examine the dynamic relationships of low-income families and vulnerable populations as they navigate the intricate balance of paid employment, family responsibilities, and societal roles, coupled with their interactions with public social policies. Her research aims to improve families’ well-being and reduce social and economic inequalities.
Under the supervision of Dr. Jason Jabbari, she is working on various research topics related to the impact of neighborhood redevelopment on a host of outcomes, including education and children’s well-being
