Esma Karakas

Program Coordinator

Esma Karakas (she/her) is a program coordinator at the Social Policy Institute. She is from Turkey and moved to the States in 2015 to get her BA. She is a 2020 graduate of Webster University where she studied International Human Rights and Gender Studies. After graduating, she worked with the immigrant community in St. Louis through various capacities including as an advocate, community organizer and a community-based researcher. Most of her work in the community focuses on refugees’ access to higher education, domestic violence prevention in immigrant communities, and increasing access to preventative health screenings among refugee women. Outside of work, Esma likes to go on solo camping trips, experiment in the kitchen, and try new coffee spots.
